Celebrating 50 years
In June 2024, the School of Philosophy celebrated its fiftieth year of operation in Hertfordshire with a series of events around the theme of Pilgrimage.
This culminated in a public seminar, Conscious Pilgrimage, for which we were delighted to welcome the distinguished theologian, environmentalist, writer and broadcaster Martin Palmer.
- Sacred Land - why we need to reconnect with the natural world if we are to avert ecological and public health crises
- Pilgrimage today - discussion on the value of pilgrimage in today’s world. Life as a pilgrimage
- Pilgrimage for tomorrow - networking and discussion, supporting one another on our journeys to a more holistic and sustainable future

St Alban's Way. Walking together. Talking together.
In the week leading up to the Alban Pilgrimage celebrations, students of the School of Philosophy were joined by members of faith organisations, walking groups and other members of the public to walk the St Alban’s Way, a 35 mile pilgrimage walk in five stages from London to St Albans.
The walk took in stunning parks, waterways and views and allowed for reflections along the way, inspired by the life of Alban, Britain’s first saint and martyr.
